My name is Cheryl Lacy. I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. I am of Aleut and Scottish/English decent.
From my earliest memories of drawing graffiti on furniture to pee-chee folders to paintings on walls, I have loved expressing myself through art in all its forms. I am predominately a self-taught artist however, spent time studying art at the University of Alaska Mat-Su campus.
My art reflects the journey to learn more about myself and where I came from. I like to use traditional medium, such as pencil, pen, watercolors and acrylics, to explore an idea and then shake things up using non-traditional materials such as fabric, thread and beads. Some of the things I love to hear people say are “How did you do that?” and “What did you use?”
I am one of the luckiest people because my work is something that I love to do. To be able to tell stories through artwork, whether it’s my family history, fun things to do, or places I’ve been, brings me great joy. It’s all possible because I didn’t get in trouble for writing on the furniture and walls. I can’t wait to see where the road takes me….
You can contact me for commisioned artwork and beadwork along with personal quilt portraits.
